The Right Reverend Brian K. Magnus, an ordained elder in The United Brethren Church in Canada, was first elected Superintendent of the Ontario Conference of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ in 1990. That title changed to President in 1992 when the Canadian arm of the church realized that it needed to be administratively independent of the U.B. Headquarters located in the United States. When the worldwide United Brethren Church adopted a new international structure with full autonomy for each National Conference in 2001, Rev. Magnus was elected as the first Bishop of The United Brethren Church in Canada, and in November 2021 was elected to another three-year term.
Bishop Magnus has served as the Chairman of the United Brethren in Christ International Executive Committee (the Cabinet of Bishops) since 2002. He also sits on the international U.B. Global Leadership Team.
Bishop Magnus received a Bachelor of Theology degree (Pastoral Ministries) from Emmanuel Bible College (Kitchener, ON) and his Master's degree from Huntington University in 1981.
Bishop Magnus was ordained in 1982. He served as Youth Pastor and Associate Pastor of the Garrison Road Church in Fort Erie, ON from 1978 to 1983. From 1984 to 1988 he pastored the New Hope U.B. Church in Toronto. In 1988 he began serving as the Senior Pastor of the Parkwood Gardens Church in Guelph, ON.
Bishop Magnus' passion for ministry centers on two primary calls: first, to communicate the Scriptures as God’s Word in faithful and relevant ways to our world today and second, to assist God’s people to truly be the church in the 21st century.
Bishop Magnus and his wife, Lynette, have five adult children who all serve the Lord in various capacities; David, Heather, Holly, Wendy and Christopher. They thoroughly enjoy their 11 grandchildren.
The Magnuses reside in Guelph, Ontario.
